McCain's Self-Righteous Fakery

If John McCain keeps up that self-righteous fakery about wanting to be our servant, we’re in for two rather tedious months until election day.

First of all, he also says he wants to be our leader. How can he be both our leader and our servant? We know what’s really going on here. The servant shtick is phony humility intended to soften us up. He has no intention of being our humble servant and every intention of being our know-it-all Great Leader, our commander in chief.

The rest of this week's op-ed, "McCain's Self-Righteous Fakery," is at The Future of Freedom Foundation website.

You ever seen the movie U-571? There is a scene where one of the crew asks the impromptu Captain, Tyler, what they're going to do in this desperate situation they are in. Tyler responds with "I Don't Know" and the Chief of the Boat, played by Keitel, responds that a skipper should never say the words "I Don't Know," that they'll sink a ship faster than a depth charge: "The skipper is all-knowing and all-powerful. The skipper always knows what to do, whether he does or not."

I think this is the approach McCain takes with regard to leadership. The one thing that is clear is that the only folks able to see through the smoke screen the skipper puts up are those more knowledgeable than him on important issues. People like you.

If there is one thing McCain does know how to do it is deal out death.

I obviously don't think it is true of McCain, but I don't see what your problem is here. My leader definitely served his followers: http://www.biblegateway.com/resources/commentaries/?action=getCommentaryText&cid=4&source=1&seq=i.50.13.2.

And there was a great Transformers episode when Optimus Prime won back the Something-Bots (the cool jets) by risking his life for them. So he was their leader and their servant.

I think your point would be stronger if you said "McCain wants to be our ruler, so how can he be our servant?"

Leading by example is not what McCain or other political leaders have in mind.
