This Can't End Well

Israel is going to keep stopping ships headed for Gaza. Turkey promises military escorts for future convoys. If Israel and Turkey duke it out, wouldn't the U.S. have to go to the aid of its NATO ally Turkey?

  1. As far as I know, NATO only obliges it's members to help a member if that member is attacked. It seems to me that for such purposes, Turkey getting in conflict with Israel in Israeli waters will not count as Israel attacking Turkey, but as Israel defending itself against Turkey. Assuming off course that Israel is smart enough to not attack in international waters as they did the last time.
