Excusing Polanski
It is truly sickening to see Hollywood types make excuses for Roman Polanski, the slimeball director who drugged and boozed up a 13-year-old girl 30 years ago before committing a variety of sexual assaults on her. For example, witness Whoopi Goldberg's attempt to distinguish what Polanski did -- and pleaded guilty to before fleeing the country -- from "rape-rape."
He pled guilty and then fled before sentencing. There are many who think his rape should be excused.
ReplyDeleteI don't know enough about the case to affirmatively say, "Polanski did it." But I do know enough to say that if he drugged a 13 year old girl and had sexual relations with her then he is a rapist - or in Whoopi's phrase a "rape-rapist."
ReplyDeleteI know Polanski claims that he pled guilty based on a sentencing promise and that when he thought the judge wasn't going to go along with the deal (which they don't have to) he decided to flee the jurisdiction.
I do think he is a great director - Chinatown is one of the best films I have ever seen - but that in no way excuses a rape.
BTW - Whoopi Goldberg defended the East German regime on the old Politically Incorrect show as being "wonderful" and "friendly to the arts" and "full of people happy to be equal." When Gene Simmons heard this he asked her why she didn't move over there and enjoy the amenities and freedoms of the gulag. Simmons forever went up in my estimatio with that.
