My impression's always been that Lincoln was a white supremacist and racial seperatist who talked out of both sides of his mouth on the issue, so it's difficult to ascertain just how "sincere" he was, if at all, in opposing slavery qua slavery.

But it's still refreshing to see a critical piece on Lincoln upon the occasion of his b-day. I've been wanting to read Hummel's book for a long time now. Maybe it's high time I bumped it to the top of my reading list.Robert Kaercherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07003947054155352668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20077444.post-54608398940911544662009-02-12T23:33:00.000-06:002009-02-12T23:33:00.000-06:00We only wish our national debt was currently $2.8 ...We only wish our national debt was currently $2.8 billion!

Thanks for the heads up on the column.Paul Eilershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03443012393151401891noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20077444.post-87076762420602270502009-02-12T12:53:00.000-06:002009-02-12T12:53:00.000-06:00What a kick ass article.
